Does anyone still use the old wood heaters?
You know the ones that actually sit inside not like a fireplace. That have the door that you open and put the wood in and have the ashes pan up underneath where the wood goes in. And it has the bricks inside it where the wood goes to hold heat. We actually still have one of those and have not used it this year because we live in Mississippi and have been in New Mexico most of the winter. But we have one and have used it for the past six years every winter. For those that are cold natured you should get a wood heater. They are awesome. You don't have to worry about getting cold that is for sure. So, does anyone else have a wood heater. We have an old brown Ashley one. I love it. They are wonderful. So, do any of you have a wood heater?
Do you like old things?
A lot many people love Old books, old furniture, old times, old friends, old articles, old manners, old cities and towns. I do collect old things. What about old wife?
Any memory of smells?
We can all remember some happy moments in our lives from a smell, it could also trigger a very bad memory. The smell of burning wood takes me back to my youth when Id go on vacation with a friend of mine. They had a cottage in the mountains and they would cook from an old wood stove. Mmmm I can nearly smell it now and the food was simply delicious!! The smell of gas (leaded gas) takes me back when I was a kid visiting my uncle in his garage. He used to take me with him when he'd fix a car. I loved it!! For some people, the smell of flowers brings back sad memories. My sad memories are triggered by the smell of hospitals. I cant stand that smell!!What are your memories of smells......good and bad?Ive included a picture of strawberries....bet you can nearly smell them.....I know I can.[em]thumbup[/em]
Home improvement project bigger than expected
I went to one of my rental properties today to fix a soft floor in the utility room and in front of the shower. I thought it would be a quick fix. I started tearing up the floor and realized that some of the support beams are rotten. Then looking at the floor better, the soft spot is actually a soft floor. I completely cut out the utility room floor. Replacing it with new wood and tile. The bathroom I will have to continue tomorrow. I am tempted to tear out the shower and upgrade it since I am in there. I had to make a run back to Lowes to buy some 4x4s to add extra floor support, since the original is to soft. I will be replacing the bathroom floor with new tile also. I am hope there is are no other issues I run into with the bathroom. Then I need to crawl under the house to remove some old wood the builders left down there. I am afraid it might attract termites and other pests. I also noticed the crawl space is very damp. Does anyone else have rental properties they do their own work on? I have had this house for almost four years, I have not had a single empty month yet. I guess I have been lucky.
Did you have a clubhouse/treehouse as a kid?
I never really had one. We would get blankets and make forts for a night or so but that was it. I got some old wood and made my kids a clubhouse which I put at the edge of the woods in our backyard. They pretend they are in the army and that is their base and stuff and it is really fun. Do you have one for your kids? Did you have one growing up? What things did you do in it?
Wood Burning Stoves
We have a nice old wood burning stove and other than the decorative pieces that broke, it works just fine. The reason we don't use it besides my husbands bad back and he can't move wood, is that the people before us didn't have a liner in the chiminy and so we had a chiminy fire. Instead of replacing the liner, I feel it best to get rid of it.So I went online, even to ebay to see what a wood burning stove goes for. Not only did I see any that looked like what we have, but there was so many different prices. How can I go about finding how much I can get for this stove?
children play grounds
Hi, i was wondering what people thought about playgrounds and there safty. where i live i have a old playground. my baby girl fall on a want a be step made from old wood. Do you i should go ahead and start a projcet to get up money for a new play ground?
Would you want to if you had a chance to go back in time and live?
Sorry my husband and I live out in the boonies as most everyone knows that knows me on here. And soon honey is going in for an operation so he wants to get in as much walking as possible. Well to get to the point we have some land out behind us and it has a small log cabin on it and I mean small. I am not that tall and it is barley tall enough for me to stand up straight in.There is no evedince of a bathroom in this old house. No evedience of any plumbing at all in this house. We found an old wood stove in the back yard of this place a small one it was all broken. We find glass jars out there that really look old some of them have no screw threads on the top where the cap was supposed to be. Has cars on the property that are from the early 30's 40's. And we take walks down there just to get some excersize. Any way there was no electric ever installed in that house. We sometimes wonder how it must have been to live back then. How much they had to do without back then compared to these days and times. We have found bottles out there that was from the 20's 30's 40's. Can you imagne how it must have been back then? Would you want to even try to go back and live without all of today's...
old cabin
do any one remember the log houses people use to live in .no running water no electric lights, old wood stove to keep warm by and every one slept in the same room.things have really changed over the years.
Furniture Restoration
Do any of you restore furniture? I have tried to restore some old wood furniture, but I did not get the result I was hoping for. Any tips would be appreciated.
