Environmental stewardship and public education program
The Columbia Basin Trust provided $100,000 per year in 1999 and 2000 to the CKFRP for this program. The goals of the program are:

  • To promote environmental stewardship, public education and awareness

  • To create opportunities for community involvement and local empowerment

  • To increase community responsibility and ownership of actions and their impacts

  • To strengthen human community links to biotic communities

  • To build understanding, abilities and skills for informed choice making through education and active involvement in stewardship activities

  • To incorporate values of community, neighbours helping neighbours, empathy and integrity in stewardship and education activities

The priority objectives for the program are:

  • To develop community direction, coalitions and partnerships for community-based stewardship organizations and programs.

  • To support skill development and training necessary to build stewardship capacity within the community.

  • To provide tools necessary for project implementation.
