Mutton Creek
Diversion $43,324
This project is to
rebuild the Mutton Creek Diversion structure at Whiteswan Lake
Provincial Park which diverts water into Alces Lake and then
into the Whiteswan Lake spawning channel. The Mutton Creek diversion
is 20+ years old and was built of wood which is beginning to
rot. A considerable amount of erosion has taken place in Mutton
Creek and the diversion is on the verge of being washed out.
The Mutton Creek Diversion is the only source of water for the
Whiteswan Lake spawning channel which during the last seven
years as been utilized by an average of 517 spawning rainbow
trout. Approximately 91% of the total rainbow trout catch at
Whiteswan Lake are wild fish and the result of natural recruitment.
The Whiteswan Lake spawning channel is also provides a good
opportunity to view spawning rainbow trout.
