Norns Creek
rearing and spawning habitat enhancement $14,464
Norns Creek is the
most important spawning tributary for rainbow trout below the
Hugh Keenleyside Dam. Site visits (MELP, BCH and CBFWCP staff)
and mapping completed in 1998 indicate that: (I) gravels suitable
for spawning are being deposited high on point bars rather than
in the stream channel; and (2) good rearing habitat is scarce,
especially in the lower reaches of the stream. Both problems
are related to a lack of large woody debris and boulders in
the channel.
This project involves continuation of habitat complexing begun
in 1998, based on multi-year plan for accessible habitat below
barrier falls. This involves placement of tree revetments, rock
clusters, and bank stabilization.
