Columbia Kootenay Fisheries Renewal Partnership

Columbia Basin Reservoir Workshop $9,315

The Columbia Mountains Institute of Applied Ecology (CMI) will be holding a one and a half day workshop to be titled "Understanding the Ecology of Columbia River Reservoirs". The workshop will be held in Revelstoke, BC in early May, 2000. Attendance at the workshop is expected to be the public, First Nations peoples, and community groups with an interest in fish/ecology of the Columbia River Reservoirs.

Among Columbia Basin residents there is high interest in the Columbia River reservoirs, including their ability to support a fishery. Yet there is generally a poor understanding of reservoir ecology and operational conditions. The workshop presentations will guide participants through an examination of the ecology of the Columbia River before the dams; the maturing reservoir system that now exists; and the probable future of the reservoir as an ecosystem. Participants will leave this workshop with a well-synthesized package of information regarding the ecology of reservoir systems.

An important benefit of this workshop will be the bringing together of various sectors and disciplines in a positive learning environment. Participants from across the Columbia Basin will haven an opportunity to meet each other, ask questions and share their points of view.
