Lussier Watershed
Community Education and Stewardship Development $10,886
The Sheep Creek (Lussier
River) residents, believe they can be a powerful source of information
to improve or enhance decisions made in the Lussier Watershed.
The problem is the lack of essential technical knowledge and
training to fully communicate with the logging industry and
government ministries. To rectify this situation, the residents
of Sheep Creek are proposing a project to ensure community involvement
in the environmental stewardship of the watershed. Educational
workshops held in the community, field work and training to
monitor the Lussier River will enable the participation in the
decisions that impact homes in that area. Informed field observations
and data collected by Sheep Creek residents will be made available
to government and industry benefiting any future planning undertaken
in the watershed. The goals of this project are as follows:
1. Improved education about the Lussier Watershed for Sheep
Creek (Lussier River) residents.
2. Improved access to resources and training for Sheep Creek
residents.
3. Improved knowledge of streambank erosion for Sheep Creek
residents.
4. Enhance "community building"
