Kaslo and
District Community Forest Society $19,910
The Kaslo and District
Community Forest Society (KDCFS) and JV Humphries Primary-Secondary
School (JVH) in Kaslo will develop a school/community forest
educational interface program. The project goal is to develop
a sequence of curriculum activities and experiences for Kindergarten
through Grade 12 that will utilize the Community Forest lands
and related activities of the KDCFS to build student knowledge
of functioning forest ecosystems, awareness of the full range
of values requiring consideration in forest management, and
the contributions that the Community Forest makes to our lives.
This curriculum will be integrated with the Ministry of Education
learning from the previous year. In addition to developing this
knowledge base, it is believed that participation in vibrant,
classroom and field trip experiences will build a sense of environmental
stewardship, particularly related to our forest resources. By
generating this capacity within the youth of the community,
our hope is that it will spread to the community as a whole.
