Kimberley
Community Forest $20,000
Existing structures
for the management of forest areas that surround communities
such as Kimberley are often characterized as unsustainable,
growth-oriented, centralized, and detrimental to habitat/ecosystem
processes and stability. This often creates conflict over competing
land values in the areas surrounding communities. The Kimberley
Community Forest Working Committee will be developing outreach
materials and activities to engage the community in a discussion
of the importance of informed and involved stewardship of the
land. Landscape level background materials to understand past,
current, and future stewardship activities will also be collected
and developed. The evolving models of forest tenure in British
Columbia have the potential to better address these issues if
communities have the opportunity to take an active role in guiding
the balance of land uses and values.
