CKFRP Strategic
Planning $41,496
The goal of this
project is to develop a long-term comprehensive fisheries strategy
(in collaboration with MELP, CBFWCP, DFO, etc.) that identifies
key fisheries issues in the region, outlines the environmental,
socio-economic and cultural resource values, and fosters decision-making
at the local, regional and international scale. Strategic planning
has been identified in the development of the Columbia Kootenay
Fisheries Renewal Partnership as a key priority.
The strategic plan will establish specific goals and objectives
for individual fish species and habitat types and set strategic
priorities for future funding. The plan will recognize ongoing
commitments on behalf of existing regional programs (MELP, CBFWCP,
CBT), incorporate community perspectives and concerns and prioritize
funding based on highest fisheries resource needs. The degree
of complexity of specific fisheries issues will dictate the
nature of any collaborative arrangements and the time required
for issue resolution. The plan is considered a "living
document". Ongoing community discussion will be instrumental
in shaping future changes in strategic priorities.
