Columbia Kootenay Fisheries Renewal Partnership

Tonkawatla River Habitat Improvement Project $5,734

The Tonkawatla River discharges into the Columbia River just downstream of the Revelstoke Dam and is believed to be one of the few spawning streams for the original Arrow Lakes "yellow fin" rainbow trout. This stream is influenced by beaver dams, urban development, logging activities, and road and rail development. This project will determine habitat use relationships for the resident fish species; i.e., distribution of fish and their use of habitats through sampling. Most of the land adjacent to the Tonkawatla River is privately held and being so close to town the stream is of great interest to the local community.
