Mark Creek
Revitalization Initiative $22,000
The overall objective
of this project is to assess watershed processes in an integrated
manner so that appropriate techniques can be prescribed that
provide for long term management and rehabilitation of Mark
Creek. (Mark Creek is a tributary of the St. Mary's River within
the Kootenay River basin. It flows through the City of Kimberley.)
This assessment will employ ecological principles that allow
management for maximum diversity of native species within the
Mark Creek drainage. The aim of this project is to accomplish
the following goals:
1. A review of existing information and data compilation to
provide the historical background of the watershed, the areas
of concern, and the tools to initiate the assessment;
2. A Proper Functioning Condition (PFC) assessment of Mark Creek
including hydro-geomorphological and riparian vegetation components
(advanced inventory); and
3. Prioritized channel and riparian zone rehabilitation prescriptions
to return the stream to proper functioning condition wherever
possible (design and planning).
