Columbia Kootenay Fisheries Renewal Partnership

Windermere Creek Restoration Project $12,176

Windermere Creek is a fifth order tributary to the Columbia River with a mainstem length of approximately 27 km., located near the community of Windermere in the East Kootenays. Windermere Creek originates in the Stanford Range of the Columbia Mountains and is considered a regionally-important fish stream which provides habitat for a variety of species, including kokanee salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka), bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus), westslope cutthroat trout (O. clarki lewisi), and eastern brook trout (S. fontinalis). The Windermere Creek watershed encompasses a number of stakeholders, including forestry, mining, agriculture, First Nations, and recreation (hiking, angling, golf course), and is a community watershed.

This project will: (I) promote screening of irrigation intakes; (ii) prepare a detailed prescription to improve access into a long culvert; and (iii) deliver information to community members and others from the basin on bio-engineering restoration techniques.
