Columbia Kootenay Fisheries Renewal Partnership

Upper West Arm of Kootenay Lake kokanee conservation and enhancement plan. $13,500

The objectives of this project fall under the stated FsRBC and CKFRP goal and objective(s) of protecting, conserving and restoring fish and fish habitat Development of a conservation plan most likely will lead to additional enhancement of this valuable kokanee stock and generate some (more) research opportunity (s). Much of the kokanee research in British Columbia is based on information generated from analysis of West
Arm kokanee. Therefore to a degree this project also falls under the second objective of FsRBC and CKFRP to provide the opportunity of research, monitoring and assessment of fish and fish habitat. Specific objectives of this proposal include:

1. Assessment of all available Upper West Arm spawning habitat and kokanee production capability.
2. Assessment of mixed stock concerns within the Upper West Arm kokanee population.
3. Analysis of sustainable levels of fishing exploitation.
4. Sequencing of future (proposed) enhancement projects through a planned process.
