Lake Revelstoke Winter Creel Survey $11,800

Lake Revelstoke is a valued resource and it is widely recognised that there is little information on how people use it and the status of its aquatic communities. This proposal is to conduct a winter creel survey along Lake Revelstoke from October 2000 to April 2001 to extend and complement the summer creel/visitor use survey conducted this May to September. There is currently no information on the winter fishery on Lake Revelstoke, and in particular, on the harvest of bull trout, a blue-listed species. This information is needed to contribute to wise future management of the reservoir and to help further develop our sense of stewardship for the area. A complete creel survey will provide valuable information for a Lake Revelstoke strategic fisheries plan.

The goal of this project is to provide sound data on the Lake Revelstoke sport fishery, particularly bull trout harvest, and to contribute previously unknown information on the reservoir for future resource planning purposes.

Project objectives are:
1) To assess the winter sport fishery on Lake Revelstoke (particularly bull trout), collect valuable data on fish species in the reservoir, and gain information on angler use.

2) To provide a baseline against which future change can be measured.

3) To help the local community contribute to the wise future management of this valued area.
