Canoe Valley Culvert Assessment $22,932

The project will assess culverts and stream crossings to determine barriers to fish migration in the watersheds that flow into the Canoe Reach of Kinbasket Lake. This information is currently very limited and/or is not available for the Robson Valley Forest District. This assessment will consider fish habitat information (habitat classification, bed material, bank stability, water flow, fish habitat quality upstream of the culvert, and other stream characteristics), and evaluate whether the culverts provide for passage or are barriers for fish migration. There will also be a public educational session for the community to learn how to assess culverts as fish barriers, thus empowering individuals to act as watershed stewards. The project will produce a report, complete with maps, and make recommendations to remedy any barriers. This project is supported by both the Fisheries Section Head and the Senior Habitat Protection Biologist of the Fish, Wildlife and Habitat Branch of the Omineca-Peace Region of MELP as well as the Watershed Restoration Technician of the Robson Valley Forest District, MOF.
