Lower Sand
Creek Fish Habitat Restoration - Phase 1 $25,180
This proposal is
for Phase 1 of a multi-year project to increase fish use and
preserve biodiversity in lower Sand Creek by restoring fish
habitat. Phase 1 involves conducting a fish habitat assessment
(Johnston and Slaney, 1996) to determine the extent of habitat
disturbance, and creating prescriptions to restore lower Sand
Creek to a meandering channel with functional fish habitat.
Repairs to existing instream structures and bank revetments
installed in 1999 on the Matson property are required to ensure
continued functionality. Renegotiation of the riparian zone
to stabilize streambanks and provide cover for fish is planned
for high priority areas. To increase community awareness of
Sand Creek, the local community will be invited to participate
in stream stewardship through tours of the site and tree planting.
