Joseph Creek Awareness and Environmental Education $17,300

This proposal is submitted for allocation of funds to continue the Joseph Creek Awareness and Environmental Education Project beyond its first year. The model being used for delivery of the project through the school system, involving scientists, teachers and youth, is sound and those concepts are further expanded on in the design of year 2 and 3, in this proposal. The applicable program for funding is Fisheries and Watershed Stewardship.

Objective:

The objective of the project is to provide scientifically credible environmental education programs. The factual information projects would assist individuals in the making of sound environmental choices.

The education and awareness program will be delivered initially by the Mount Baker Secondary School students (through their existing Environmental Awareness Program, as well as other components of their curriculum). An additional party in project delivery is the 'Science Professional'.

Initially the target audience would be the Secondary School students. This group would then target primary schools and the general public (see 'Information Flow Chart' attached). Where possible, alliances will be made with the College of the Rockies. As and example of this, the College faculty were invited to participate as judges for the current project's Web page contest. Knowledge of Science Professionals is required to keep the specific projects (of the awareness program) focused on the facts, and ensure appropriate
