Joseph Creek
Awareness and Environmental Education $17,300
This proposal is submitted for allocation of funds to continue
the Joseph Creek Awareness and Environmental Education Project
beyond its first year. The model being used for delivery of
the project through the school system, involving scientists,
teachers and youth, is sound and those concepts are further
expanded on in the design of year 2 and 3, in this proposal.
The applicable program for funding is Fisheries and Watershed
Stewardship.
Objective:
The objective of the project is to provide scientifically credible
environmental education programs. The factual information projects
would assist individuals in the making of sound environmental
choices.
The education and awareness program will be delivered initially
by the Mount Baker Secondary School students (through their
existing Environmental Awareness Program, as well as other components
of their curriculum). An additional party in project delivery
is the 'Science Professional'.
Initially the target audience would be the Secondary School
students. This group would then target primary schools and the
general public (see 'Information Flow Chart' attached). Where
possible, alliances will be made with the College of the Rockies.
As and example of this, the College faculty were invited to
participate as judges for the current project's Web page contest.
Knowledge of Science Professionals is required to keep the specific
projects (of the awareness program) focused on the facts, and
ensure appropriate
