Columbia Kootenay Fisheries Renewal Partnership

Blueberry Creek Fishway $1,000

This proposal requests funds to pay for engineering review of a fishway designed for the Blueberry Irrigation District intake weir. A conceptual design is already available from the Columbia Basin Fish & Wildlife Compensation Program.

The objective of the fishway is to allow rainbow trout from the Columbia River to access spawning and rearing habitat upstream of the weir. Other work to improve passage through two downstream culverts was done in 1998 and 1999, and trout were observed attempting to pass the weir in 1999. Monitoring of fish passage will continue this spring. The intake weir is the last man-made barrier to fish passage on lower Blueberry Creek.

Deliverables will include a report documenting fish passage in 2000 (prior to installation of the weir) and a report documenting the completion of the weir.
