Ktunaxa Independent School Society - Natural Resource Technology Program $20,000

The Ktunaxa Independent School Society (KISS) is undertaking this project to increase the resource management capacity of the Ktunaxa Nation, other First Nation groups and aboriginal communities. Funding will be applied towards supporting the second year of a Forest Technology extension program from the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT). The first year of this program, the Natural Resource Management program is currently being delivered in Cranbrook, BC to 13 students. It will be completed on May 12, 2000. The Ktunaxa community is in support of completing this program in the 2000/2001 academic year and awarding Diplomas to the graduates. Specifically, the Environmental Stewardship funding will be used to support the delivery of the fourth semester of the program in the January - May 2001 period: 90% for field school costs and 10% for administration.
