Columbia
and Windermere Lakes Osprey Survey $6,000
The Columbia and Windermere Lakes Osprey Survey will consist
of field surveys conducted in the Columbia to Lake Windermere
area of the Upper Columbia River Valley to establish the number,
location and success rates of nesting Osprey. A second component
of this project will be to increase public awareness and involvement
in the stewardship of these regionally significant bird species
through awareness programs and through the establishment of
a citizen-based monitoring program, Osprey Watch. The regional
population of Osprey, being dependent on health fish populations
and water quality are a very visible species with significant
public profile and therefore provide an important ambassador
species to educate local people about larger environmental stewardship
opportunities associated with water, fish and ecosystems. The
establishment of Osprey Watch would ensure long term collection
of data of public involvement in stewardship.
