Clear Air for the Creston Valley $5,000

This year, two public health advisories were issued from the Ministry of Environment regarding the air quality of downtown Creston, BC. Outdoor activities were not recommended; those with breathing problems, the young, and the elderly were advised to stay indoors. Air quality in the Creston Valley in a concern. Smoke and Highway 3, compounded by geography, all contribute to poor air quality. This project will target 3 sources of air pollution: road dust, woodstove emissions, and backyard burning. Through education, we hope to increase public awareness of the hazards and causes of poor air quality. We also hope to set up a framework for an alternative to burning for residents. Improving our air quality will require the co-operation of local, provincial, and federal governments as well as the inclusion of the public.
