Ethnobotanical
Walks for students and teachers of School District #5 $5,000
This project is in
partnership with School District #5 (Southeast Kootenay) Aboriginal
Education and the Ktunaxa/Kinbasket Tribal Council for the purposes
of ethnobotanical interpretative work with students and their
schoolteachers. During the last 3 years, the Ktunaxa Ethnobotany
Project has had countless requests for providing workshops to
the students in School District #5. Unfortunately, due to funding
constraints the school district has only been able to afford
a small number of ethnobotany workshops. The ethnobotany walks
are valuable to the students in a number of ways: interracial
relations, cultural awareness, and environmental awareness.
The students in the walks range from grade four to twelve; due
to the nature of the land it is easy to cater these walks to
any age and knowledge level.
