Community
support and project monitoring and evaluation $132,380
In FY1999-2000, this
program was developed to provide technical support and assistance
to community organizations in developing, planning and implementing
fisheries projects. Two 'fisheries extension officers' were
hired under this program, and proved to be extremely popular
and welcome among community groups and effective in assisting
groups to develop biologically-sound project plans.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada has contributed $70,000. to the
CKFRP for 'stewardship coordinators'. The responsibilities of
the stewardship coordinators are very similar to the existing
'fisheries extension officers' and the partnership steering
committee has decided to employ the individuals initially contracted
to provide extension services as 'stewardship coordinators.'
The additional FsRBC and CBT funding ($26,126. in total) will
allow us to hire 2 stewardship coordinators (Upper Columbia
and Kootenay watersheds) as opposed to the one which we could
support with FOC funding.
