Columbia Kootenay Fisheries Renewal Partnership

Norns Creek Rehabilitation - Phase 2 $1,000

This is a continuation of work which was left uncompleted last year due to unavoidable delays relating to water levels and engineering specifications. The objective is to modify existing structures in Norns Creek to ensure that they are properly functioning and structurally sound, and, if necessary add additional structures. The structures are designed to provide habitat complexity in the stream (deeper pools, gravel deposition at pool tailouts) for rainbow trout juveniles, kokanee and other species. The approach of this work was to attempt to imitate natural debris jams, which would have occurred historically before larger trees were removed from the valley.

Norns Creek is one of the most important spawning tributaries for rainbow trout in the Columbia River downstream of Keenleyside dam.

Deliverables will include a report documenting the work completed in 2000.
