Columbia Kootenay Fisheries Renewal Partnership

Salmo bull trout spawning platform design $17,000

A wide variety of interested community members have worked together between March and June 2000 to identify key fisheries issues, concerns and opportunities within the Salmo River watershed. They have identified (with professional assistance) the need for construction of bull trout spawning platforms on Sheep Creek, an important bull trout-spawning tributary of the Salmo River. The constructed platforms will restore spawning habitat lost as a result of extreme flooding events in Sheep Creek in 1997. This project will pay for the design of spawning platforms and for riparian planting (using community volunteers) along the Salmo River mainstem.
