Get Bear Smart! Kimberley

Kimberley is surrounded by excellent natural bear habitat, and natural bear travel corridors abound in the city. This has always been a problem and Kimberley has developed a bad reputation for killing bears - 73 have been killed as a result of bear/human conflicts in the city in the past four years. With that in mind, EKES is using $15,000 in funding from CKFRP to implement a bear smart program in the area. Among other activities, the program will develop interactive school programs on bears and how to reduce the attraction of bears to homes and neighborhoods and involve the community in making Kimberley a safe area for both bears and people.
