Goat River Burbot Assessment

The Goat River at Creston is recognized as the only spawning habitat for the endangered population of Kootenay River burbot (also known as lingcod). Historically, local and traditional use of the burbot has been an important part of the community and First Nations. CKFRP has funded the Lower Kootenay Band with $23,500 to determine the status and life history characteristics of Goat River burbot. The project will also identify spawning habitat and recommend opportunities for protection and enhancement.
