Columbia Kootenay Fisheries Renewal Partnership

Goat River Restoration Program

The lower Goat River near Creston has an extensive history of land clearing, channel diversion and land reclamation followed by settlement and flood control measures. This has left a legacy of declining fish populations and loss of habitat. The restoration project, with $17,400 in funding from CKFRP, will begin this summer with a survey to determine how best to restore the river. If all goes as planned, the survey will result in approval for a major stream rehabilitation project. The Lower Kootenay Band partnered on this project.
