Osprey
Watch
The
Osprey Watch survey began in July 2000 and is continuing into
2001-02 with $3,850 in funding from CKFRP. Organizers train
community volunteers to monitor osprey habits, including what
species of fish the osprey eat and their main fishing areas
on the lake. This information is then compiled so organizations
like BC Hydro and the District of Invermere can access nest
records and maps for planning. As Osprey Watch volunteers, citizens
develop positive attitudes toward the ospreys, which is reinforced
by the positive action of keeping records and learning about
osprey natural history. Their stewardship involvement is spread
by word-of-mouth to friends, family and neighbours.
