Alternative Energy for Youth

Blue Lake Forest Education Society
$4,000
Canal Flats, BC

The Blue Lake Forest Education Society generates all its electricity thought a micro-hydroelectric system. Recently this system was expanded and a second (larger) system was added to increase power generation. This alternative way of creating electricity is a useful tool to educate children about alternative energy sources with in the Basin.

The goal of the Alternative Energy for Youth Program is to educate students in alternative energy sources, electrical generation in the Basin and energy efficiency and conservation. Students will learn how a micro-hydroelectric system affects the environment they live in. We will develop working models that can be sued for year to come. Two students will have the opportunity to increase their skills and abilities by researching, developing, and teaching a program of this nature. By erecting educational signs that explain our hydroelectric system and by updating and reprinting our hydroelectric brochure, this will educate the general public on Blue Lake’s one-of-a-kind hydroelectric system.
