Joseph Creek Awareness

Mount Baker Secondary School
$11,700
Cranbrook, BC

Mount Baker Secondary School will be continuing with this very successful project of raising awareness of the environmental values of Joseph Creek. The Students have undertaken projects such as developing videos, a website, riparian restoration, and high school students are mentoring elementary students.

The goal of the project is to provide scientifically credible environmental education programs, on specific and relevant community issues. These factual information projects would assist individuals and the Community in the making of sound environmental choices.

Specific Objectives include:
• To empower youth by giving them the critical thinking and communications skills necessary to address environmental concerns regarding Joseph Creek, and to understand the difference between advocacy and science.
• To foster a sense of stewardship regarding the environment.
• To realize improved awareness and health of Joseph Creek as a valued tributary to the St. Mary River, by means of awareness programs delivered at MBSS.
• To promote and market this model for environmental awareness, to address urban stream issues in a variety of urban or residential/rural settings, or to other community environmental issues.
