$15,945
Jaffray, BC

This year’s work will focus on Reach 5 of Sand Creek along the Bolen Property. This year’s work will be of a similar nature to the structures placed instream by the Lower Sand Creek Restoration Group in the 2001 field season. The structures will provide needed critical fish habitat and reduce erosion to private property. Structure will consist of three lateral triangle jams with rock defections groins with ballast rock and will be based on known designs such as those associated with the Watershed Restoration Program. The structures will be cabled together to reduce movement and shifting. Whose trees with root wads will be used in project construction; the use of whole trees will greater benefit fish habitat. Approximately 4 logging truckloads of trees will be required for construction and will be donated and brought on sight by a member of the Lower Sand Creek Restoration Group. The structures will be designed to the 1:200 year flood criteria as outlined in D’Aoust and Millar 1999. Approximately 300 cubic metres of ballast rock will be incorporated into the structures and will be purchased from a local contractor. Construction will be supervised by Scott Cope R.P. Bio of Westslope Fisheries (Cranbrook).
