The
North Columbia Environmental Society is a new group (approx.
2 years old) in Revelstoke, BC that are working on a variety
of environmental issues in the community. This funding will
be used to support raising awareness on reducing pesticide use,
a “Toxicsmart” program (a home chemical use “audit”
that includes recommendations for environmentally friendly alternatives
to common household chemicals and disposal of chemicals), and
continuing their efforts to work with the City of Revelstoke
on initiatives such as developing an urban forestry plan and
an environmental strategy for Revelstoke.
Specific
Goals of this project include:
• Maintain the momentum gained in enhancing local environmental
stewardship.
• Promote awareness and improve knowledge of local environmental
issues.
• Better equip citizens to recognize and to understand
environmental impacts.
• Improve the ability and skills of the citizens of Revelstoke
to obtain and act upon information pertaining to environmental
issues.
• Encourage citizens to participate in initiatives designed
to reduce impacts and increase the environmental health of the
community of Revelstoke.
