in the Footsteps of our Ancestors
Mount Baker Secondary School
$12,135
Cranbrook, BC
This
project is a continuation of the Ethnobotanical walks that the
Ktunaxa/Kinbasket Treaty Council workers have developed and
delivered for the past four years. These walks provide an excellent
introduction to native vegetation, First Nation culture and
encourage responsible use of local environments.
Specific
Objectives of this project include:
• To build a partnership between School District $5, Aboriginal
Education, and the Ktunaxa/Kinbasket Treaty Council;
• To provide increased opportunity for the students of
School District #5 to have guided ethnobotanical walks;
• To enhance environmental awareness;
• To improve cross cultural understanding through this
learning activity;
• To enhance relevance for Aboriginal students at school;
through creating a sense of value of Ktunaxa knowledge to improve
self esteem of Aboriginal learners, especially Ktunaxa learners.
