participants and host communities in regards to the functions
of wetlands and through residents affect the decision-making
processes in communities that lead to the conservation or restoration
of wetland ecosystems functions.
To
contribute to the economic, social and environmental well being
of communities that host (WEP) by working in cooperation with
landowner(s) and the host communities to map and inventory wetlands
and to further their conservation after the Institute.
Specific
Objectives include:
• Meet with representatives of federal, provincial, and
municipal governments, community advocates, First Nations and
non-profits in the host communities to determine the priorities
for wetland conservation work.
• Select five study sites in the host communities of Radium,
Invermere and Cranbrook where the mapping and inventory work
of the Wetland Institute will contribute significantly to the
conservation of wetlands.
• Ensure that the study sites represent a variety of land
ownership (e.g. provincial, municipal, private) that that access
to land-use planning (e.g. a regional plan or Official Community
Plan, the B.C. Assessment Authority, a covenant, provincial
policy) is demonstrated.
• Conduct follow through at each study site (e.g. generating
a study report, participating in land-use planning process,
assisting in the development of a plan, assessment or covenant).
