Columbia Kootenay Fisheries Renewal Partnership

Walking in the Footsteps of Our Ancestors $12,000
School District #5 Mount Baker Secondary School

This project is in partnership with School District #5(Southeast Kootenay) Aboriginal Education and the Ktunaxa Kinbasket Treaty Council for the purposes of ethnobotanical interpretive work with students, their schoolteachers and Aboriginal education support Workers. Prior to the successive partnership with the Columbia Basin Trust Environmental Stewardship and Education Program, the Ktunaxa Ethnobotany Project had countless requests for providing workshops to the students in School district #5 that unfortunately, due to funding constraints could not be fulfilled. The ethnobotany walks are valuable to the students in a number of ways: interracial relations, cultural awareness, and environmental awareness and stewardship. The students in the walks range from grade four to grade twelve, due to the nature of the land it is easy to cater these walks to any age and knowledge level.
