Columbia
River Greenway $10,000
Columbia River Greenways Alliance
Greenways
are ribbons of protected open space that link reserves, parks,
and cultural sites with each other and the communities around
them. By securing or enhancing wildlife habitat and pedestrian
recreational opportunities they contribute to conservation,
recreation, and growth management. In 2003-2004, the CRGA will
continue to improve public awareness of the need to conserve
the grassland and riparian ecosystems of the Upper Columbia
River, while also developing on-the-ground projects that protect
or restore those ecosystems. Through education and outreach,
interpretation, delivery of guided walks, and the development
of strong working partnerships, especially with local and regional
government, the Greenways Alliance reaches a diverse audience,
thereby promoting local stewardship. By developing a physical
greenway network, we are working to secure both the ecological
and recreational legacy of the region. By coupling the protection
of local habitats with public access to “front country”
amenities and broad based ecological and stewardship education,
the Greenways Alliance works to ensure the long term sustainability
of the ecosystems that support this region, the communities
that enjoy them, and the local economies that rely on them.
