Osprey
Festival $2,200
Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area
In
1995 staff members attended the Brant Festival on Vancouver
Island and discovered that festivals can raise public awareness
about an important cause or organization. We believe that it
is through education and awareness that people will understand
how important wetlands are to the environment. So to raise public
awareness for the active habitat and wildlife management, research
and educational work we do here we held our first Festival in
1996. The Osprey became our theme as it is a valued raptor species
around the world, their numbers have been reduced to a fraction
of former levels, we have a large population here and this is
vital nesting and nursery habitat to the Osprey. Although the
Festival has been successful it has stayed small due to lack
of staff/volunteers and financial support. By moving the Festival
from April to June we now have the needed manpower from our
volunteers and seasonal staff.
