Community-based
Action Program for Shorelines $10,000
Columbia-Kootenay Fisheries Renewal Partnership
Building
on legacies of The Living by Water Project (LbyW), CAPS will
help community groups in the Columbia Basin protect, conserve
and restore riparian areas, one of the greatest repositories
of biodiversity. CAPS provides capacity building and conservation
marketing tools and techniques, as well as ready-to-use resources,
to conservation and stewardship groups and others. This helps
these groups improve their ability to motivate local shoreline
and streamside residents in taking positive actions to protect
water quality and maintain habitat for fish and other wildlife,
also enhancing recreation and tourism in the community. The
project will also help with practical tips and ideas for celebrations
associated with the Wonder of Water (WOW) initiative.
The Living by Water Project is gradually transferring skills
and resources to communities throughout BC and they have agreed
to work with CKFRP to strengthen capacity in the Basin.
