Columbia Kootenay Fisheries Renewal Partnership

Environmental Education Curriculum & Greening $10,000
Mt. Begbie Elementary School

This project will create teacher units, web site and resources required to ensure the environmental education and stewardship goals of the MBE’s SEEC&GP are met. MBE School Environmental Education Curriculum and Greening Project has been developed to bring teachers, students and neighbours together to transform our playground into a natural classroom environment. Thus, promoting environmental education and awareness through community involvement and local empowerment. By planting coniferous habitats, alpine gardens, humming bird and butterfly gardens and creating other theme areas learning opportunities for students will literally come alive. Along with the creation of these outdoor classrooms Mt. Begbie staff will create teaching units, workshops and resources that promote an understanding of Columbia Basin ecosystems and environmental issues to school aged youth and that meet the BC Science IRPs. These units, workshops and resources will be made available to other Columbia Basin educators to promote a sense of environmental stewardship and a sense of Basin Citizenship from an environmental perspective.
