Golden
Wildlife Festival of Birds and Bears $5,000
Rocky Mountain Trench Discovery Centre Society
The
Golden Wildlife Festival of Birds and Bears is an annual wildlife
festival, in it’s sixth season.
Our mission is to “ offer residents and visitors an annual
opportunity to explore the area’s rich natural environment
and to gain awareness of their place in nature through a variety
of educational and informative special features, events and
presentations.”
The
Festival is named after the Golden area’s noteworthy wildlife,
birds and bears, which occur at comparatively high densities
in our region due to the excellent habitat of the Columbia Wetlands
and relatively undeveloped forest lands.
The Festival is held the second week of May, at the peak of
spring migration for the birds and the end of winter hibernation
for the bears. This year the Festival is May 8th to 10th with
our exhibit and environmental education programs in the schools
running April 28 to May 11th.
The Festival has presentations by experts in the field of natural
history both on a national and local level.
