Living
with Wildlife $5,000
Friends of Kootenay National Park
The
Living With Wildlife event invites presenters each year to share
their expert knowledge on the natural environments and wildlife
habitats of the Columbia Valley, so that locals and visitors
to the area will be better informed on the habits and needs
of our wild animals and unique plant species. The aim being
to promote a better relationship between humans and nature in
the Columbia Valley. This year’s event will take place
on Friday, September 26 to Saturday, September 27, 2003 and
will celebrate the United Nation’s International Year
of Freshwater, and the Canadian Wonder of Waters Initiative.
Friday, September 26 is dedicated to reaching the student population
of the Upper Columbia River Valley with presenters heading out
to various schools to educate, enlighten and entertain children
from grades K-12 on the Wonders of Water, wildlife, habitat,
and stewardship, through presentations and field trips. Friday
night and all day Saturday will be open to the public with most
of the activities aimed at the family group. Organizations,
businesses, government agencies and individuals will provide
“fun and interactive” demonstrations at the free
Eco Fair, Aboriginal Displays, presentations, field trips, workshops
and games, professional biologists, foresters, researchers,
First Nations elders, trappers and historians will be on hand
to deliver presentations and field trips. Throughout the event
we present fun ways to become better stewards of our environment,
water, wildlife and the habitats that make this valley such
a special place to live and visit.
Thanks to our tireless volunteers and our wonderful sponsors
we have been able to create two successful events in 2001 and
2002. We expect to have continued support again from all of
our previous supporters, as they were extremely happy with the
event. Letters of support are attached. The Friends of Kootenay
and all the members of the Living With Wildlife organizing committee
are dedicated to communicating information about current wildlife
and habitat research and ecofriendly strategies for the people
of the Columbia Valley.
