Salmo Watershed Fish Sustainability Plan $15,000
Salmo Watershed Streamkeepers Society

This project will result in the completion and widespread adoption of a fish and aquatic ecosystem sustainability plan for the Salmo River watershed. The project will build on the achievements of the Salmo watershed fish sustainability planning process to date: (i) establishment of a broad-based Watershed Planning Team and Watershed Technical Committee; and (ii) completion of a ‘Watershed Profile’, ‘Riparian Profile’ and ‘Strategic Overview’. The plan will guide and coordinate the efforts of all stakeholders to protect and restore aquatic and riparian ecosystem values within the Salmo watershed. It is anticipated (based on their support for and participation in the process) that organizations whose activities can affect riparian and aquatic ecosystems will be guided by the sustainability plan in their activities. The project will involve further data compilation and analysis, community education and awareness and community planning. The project will support efforts of local communities and residents to strengthen the tourism sector of their economy.
