Kokanee
Salmon Stewardship - $9,500
The Kokanee Salmon Stewardship
Program guides elementary and secondary school students toward
an awareness of an important ecosystem and its management in
the Columbia Basin.
This outdoor activity combines natural and cultural history,
stewardship education, and artistic expression to enable and
empower our youth to make responsible, environmentally aware
choices. Kokanee Creek, the spawning channel, and Kootenay Lake
provide the site for students to have a rich, hands-on learning
experience. The site demonstrates human influences on natural
resource ecosystem functions and management. By paying attention
to water quality, resource management practices and by maintaining
sustainable environmental conditions for the Kokanee, one is
helping to create a healthy community.
