Columbia Kootenay Fisheries Renewal Partnership

Mountain Caribou North Kootenay Recovery Action Group - $10,000

The NKRAG has been created by the provincial government to prepare and implement a Recovery Action Plan, as required by the federal Species At Risk Act, for mountain caribou ranging from roughly Nakusp to north of Mica. This Action Plan will include recommendations related to activities such as hunting, timber harvesting, recreational land use, etc. that could have wide-ranging implications. The Group includes a broad range of stakeholders and interest groups, many who do not have ready access to, or knowledge of technical and scientific information about mountain caribou in the area. The lack of resources to address requests for information has caused significant delays in the completion of the Plan. This project would ensure technical information and specialists are available to the Group so that the most up to date information can be incorporated in the group’s decisions, and the Plan can be completed as swiftly as possible.
