Columbia Kootenay Fisheries Renewal Partnership

Slocan Valley Bat Project - $2,500

The Slocan Valley and West Kootenay Area is thought to be home to 11 species of bats, including threatened and vulnerable species such as Townsend’s Big-eared Bat, Fringed Bat, Red Bat and Northern Long-earned Bat. Bats are of particular interest in the Slocan Valley given the recent mosquito problems and interests in bats as potential predators of mosquitoes. This project is designed to raise awareness about bat ecology, conservation and management in the Slocan Valley and to promote the development of bat roost sites by building and installing bat houses.
