Healthy
Water, Healthy Communities - Lake Windermere Project - $20,000
The
Healthy Water, Healthy Communities – Lake Windermere Project
(HWHC) will:
1)
Develop stewardship tools required and address threats to the
sustainable development of Lake Windermere.
2)
Educate the Lake Windermere community regarding the current
state of the lake and encourage public participation in future
monitoring and action plans.
The Columbia Valley is currently undergoing the urbanization
of its once rural communities. Each summer, the population of
the Columbia Valley swells from 6,000 permanent residents to
well over 14,000 inhabitants. Many people are drawn to the valley
by recreational opportunities. There is an ongoing real estate
boom in the area as well as more vehicles on the water each
year. People want to ensure the water quality of Lake Windemere
is not being compromised by this significant community growth.
