Kokanee
Salmon Stewardship Program - $3,000
This program guides elementary
and secondary school students toward an awareness of an important
ecosystem and its management in the Columbia Basin. It is an
outdoor activity that combines natural and cultural history,
and stewardship education to empower youth to make responsible,
environmentally aware choices. Kokanee Creek, the spawning channel
and Kootenay Lake provide the site for students to have hands-on
learning experiences. The site demonstrates human influences
on natural resource ecosystem functions and management that
will provide students with an understanding of the elements
necessary for creating and maintaining healthy communities.
