White
Sturgeon Life History and Habitat Assessment in the Revelstoke
Reach of the mid-Columbia River, BC - $20,000
The causes for white sturgeon recruitment
failure in the upper Columbia River are believed to be related,
at least in part, to the habitat alteration caused by dams.
The proposed study would identify habitat characteristics that
are potentially limiting juvenile recruitment. The proposed
study would assess seasonal juvenile habitat suitability within
the Revelstoke Reach and identify seasonal adult habitat use
of the Revelstoke Reach. The data could be used for designing
restoration or mitigation projects (including dam discharge
prescriptions and off-channel habitat restoration) and could
assist in the potential development of a fail-safe population
in the Kinbasket Reservoir.
