Upper Columbia White Sturgeon Outreach - $5,420

White sturgeon are “red listed” or endangered in British Columbia and a “Species of Concern” in Canada. An application has been submitted to COSEWIC to have white sturgeon listed as an endangered species under SARA (Species at Risk Act). A Recovery Plan has been developed for the Upper Columbia population that includes outreach to raise awareness of the plight of white sturgeon in the Canadian Columbia River Basin. Funds are being requested to assist volunteers in conducting outreach in their communities, increase awareness of anglers on potential impacts and means to reduce them, enable youth and community participation in releases of hatchery reared juveniles and encourage youth participation.
